Some words and names are not allowed by ASIC for business names. You may need to get permission from the minister or ASIC may not accept the name at all. Here are some common examples of words and phrases that ASIC rejects (for more details and a complete list, see ASIC's website):
1. Trading as, for example, John Smith trading as John's plumbing should be John's plumbing
2. Company
3. Inc or Incorporated
4. Trust
5. Bank
You should also avoid using words that suggest a connection with official organisations or famous people, such as the government or the royal family.
Words that are rude or offensive will also be rejected.
