Do I need a name for a partnership?

As an example, if Kathy White partners with Peter Jacobs and they trade as Kathy White and Peter Jacobs, this partnership does not need to register a business name. If Kathy White partners with Peter Jacobs who trades as Jacobs Consulting and they trade as Kathy White and Peter Jacobs, this partnership does need to register a business name.
