Can I reserve a company name and register it at a later stage?

In Australia, you can reserve a company name for future use by lodging a Form 410A – Application for Reservation of a Name directly with ASIC. You can download it by following this link: https://asic.gov.au/regulatory-resources/forms/forms-folder/410-application-for-reservation-of-a-name/

This allows you to secure a desired company name and prevent others from registering it. The cost for reserving a company name is $59, and this reservation is valid for a certain period during which you can proceed with the registration of your company. It's important to note that the reservation fee does not cover the cost of registering the company itself, which is a separate process with its own associated fees.

Once ASIC has approved your application, they will send out written confirmation. Name reservations are valid for 2 months from the date of approval.

It is possible to extend the reservation by lodging a new request and fee. Generally, ASIC will only allow two extensions unless there are proven extenuating circumstances.
